After months of speculation it is finally time for the 2012 NFL Draft. The proceedings begin Thursday night at 8:00 p.m. EST, with rounds 2 and 3 selected on Friday (7:00 p.m. EST), rounds 4-7 on Saturday (Noon EST).
The New York Jets enter the draft with 10 picks, starting off with #16 in the first round. Here are the expert’s final predictions for Gang Green’s first round pick.
Chris Steuber: David Decastro -Guard- Stanford
Scott Wright: Courtney Upshaw- OLB- Alabama
Matt Bitonti: Melvin Ingram- OLB- South Carolina
Mike Mayock: Michael Floyd – WR- Notre Dame
Charley Casserly: Courtney Upshaw- OLB- Alabama
Pat Kirwan: Nick Perry- DE- USC
Peter King: Dontari Poe- DT- Memphis
As you can see most of the experts have the Jets going defense, specifically a pass rusher, in the first round. I think Rex Ryan and company would be ecstatic to land a player that they can pair up with Aaron Maybin to pressure the quarterback.
My prediction: Michael Floyd- WR- Notre Dame
I understand that the Jets are returning to their ground and pound ways, but the offense is in desperate need of a receiver to play opposite of Santonio Holmes. At 6’3 Floyd can fill the role of a red zone threat and is a very physical blocker which will help with the running game.
