Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows announced late yesterday that they will host the first US Ski Team Day.
April 7, deep into the spring break that most schools in the Sacramento/Placer/El Dorado county areas will be enjoying, will bring a slew of Olympic skiers to Squaw Valley, according to Jenny Kendrick, PR Manager at Alpine Meadows.
Among the Olympians scheduled to ski and board are Julia Mancuso, Jonny Moseley, Shannon Bahrke, Marco Sullivan, Tamara McKinney and many more. A special guest, Olympic champion Aksel Lund Svinda, will also grace the slopes at Squaw.
The event will raise funds for the US Ski and Snowboard Team Foundation. Imagine spending the day skiing with US Ski Team and Squaw Valley athletes, Olympians and alumni on the slopes of Squaw Valley, or watching the US Ski Team Pro-Am Race.
Among the festivities will be live music by San Francisco band Tea Leaf Green. A public autograph session on the KT Deck is also part of the day.
An apres ski party at the Olympic Village Lodge, will wrap up this star studded day on the snow. A donation of $150 per person, or $300 per family, which goes to the US Ski Team, gets you into the party.
From the press release, Andy Wirth, CEO of Alpine Meadows and Squaw Valley President, had this to say:
“Squaw Valley has a rich tradition in winter sports and the development of US Ski Team and US Snowboarding athletes. We are proud to host this event at Squaw Valley and to support the efforts of the Team. We look forward to offering our guests and aspiring young athletes the chance to celebrate, race and mingle with past and present legends of the sport.”

Alpine Meadows will host an event dubbed Beacons and Eggs on April 8. This is the 5th annual B and E event at Alpine.
A season pass or lift ticket gets you into the search for avalanche beacons and eggs on Easter Sunday. The Alpine Ski Patrol puts the event on. It is designed to bring a heightened avalanche awareness to skiers and provides an opportunity to practice search and rescue techniques.
Spread out over a one acre area, avalanche beacons beckon teams and individuals, with rewards for finding them. The prizes are courtesy of generous sponsors including Mammut, Garmont, Truckee Sports Exchange, Tahoe Adventure Company, Moody’s, Cosmo’s Custom Footwerks, Mountain Hardware, Alpenglow Sports, The Backcountry, and River Ranch, among others.
Ski resorts throughout the Tahoe Basin are offering exciting and fun activities over the Spring Break. Check with your favorite resort for the fantastic events they have scheduled.
