“X Factor” U.K. stars One Direction and Little Mix have signed separate book deals with HarperCollins, which made the official announcement on March 30, 2012.
As previously reported, One Direction’s two official books that were released in the U.K. in 2011 are set to be released in the U.S.: “Forever Young” goes on sale in the U.S. on April 15, 2012, while “Dare to Dream: Life as One Direction” goes on sale in the U.S. on May 22, 2012.
HarperCollins has announced that there will be a third official One Direction book that is due to be published in September 2013. HarperCollins said in a press release, “This exclusive as yet untitled book will further chronicle the story of One Direction straight from the boys themselves.”
The book due out in 2013 will no doubt include the phenomenal year that One Direction has had so far in 2012, including One Direction winning its first Brit Award; the group’s sold-out tours; and becoming the first U.K. group in music history to have its first album debut at No. 1 in the U.S.

One Direction came in third place on “The X Factor” U.K. in 2010. The members of One Direction are 18-year-old Liam Payne, 20-year-old Louis Tomlinson, 18-year-old Harry Styles, 19-year-old Zayn Malik and 18-year-old Niall Horan. They all originally auditioned for the show as solo singers but were rejected as solo singers and put into a group by “The X Factor” executive producer Simon Cowell and other decision makers. Cowell was One Direction’s mentor on the show, and he signed them to Syco Music, the record company that he co-owns with Sony Music.
One Direction’s first post-“X Factor” single, “What Makes You Beautiful,” debuted at No. 1 in the U.K. when it was released in September 2011, and it holds the record for the fastest-selling single in Sony Music U.K.’s history. “What Makes You Beautiful” also won the 2012 Brit Award for Best British Single. One Direction’s first album, “Up All Night,” has been a Top 10 hit is several countries.
Little Mix, the winner of “The X Factor” U.K. in 2011, became the first group to win on “The X Factor” U.K., and the group is also signed to Syco as part of “The X Factor” grand prize. The four members of Little Mix are 18-year-old Perrie Edwards, 20-year-old Leigh-Anne Pinnock, 19-year-old Jade Thirlwall and 20-year-old Jesy Nelson. They also originally auditioned for the show as solo singers and were rejected as solo singers but then put into a group by “The X Factor” U.K. judge Tulisa Contostavlos, who was Little Mix’s mentor on the show. Little Mix was originally called Rhythmix, but the group’s name was changed after U.K. music charity Rhythmix objected to the “X Factor” group using the name Rhythmix.
Little Mix’s first post-“X Factor” single was a cover version of Damien Rice’s “Cannonball,” and it debuted at No. 1 in the U.K. when it was released in December 2011. Little Mix’s first album is due out sometime in 2012. The album’s title and release date are to be announced.
As previously reported, Contostavlos has a book deal with U.K. publisher Headline. Under the book deal, her memoir is set for publication sometime in 2012. She will also write two children’s books: one due out in 2013 and the other in 2014.
