Their debate over effective journalism went from Twitter to television Friday night. But, did Piers Morgan and author/personality Toure’ lose sight of the real issue at hand, Trayvon Martin’s death and justice ?
In a debate that lit up Twitter, trending for a good part of Friday night, Morgan and Toure’ exchanged insults including the latter’s insinuation that Morgan, who happens to have British roots, was not qualified to speak on American issues.
“You are too new to the situation to fully understand what’s going on here, and what’s really at stake for America,” said Toure’.

As reported early Friday, Toure’ blasted Morgan for even taking the time to interview Sanford, Florida neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman’s brother, Robert Zimmerman.
“You became part of the problem by allowing Robert Zimmerman to come on your show and spread misinformation,” said Toure’. “The number one problem with having him on the air is the two of them, George and Robert, haven’t spoken in years.”
According to Piers Morgan however, the interview was of service to viewers.
“You’ve tried to portray me as an unprofessional journalist who, last night, didn’t challenge Robert Zimmerman. Anybody who watched that interview saw me challenge him repeatedly,” said Morgan.
From there the interview, lasting just under 15 minutes, became quite heated with Morgan yelling to obtain control of his show.
“Again. Again. Toure’ calm down. I don’t wish to give you a lesson in how to be a professional journalist…,” Morgan said frustrated. “If you let me finish. If you watch the interview back, you’ll see that I challenged him repeatedly as any professional journalist would do.”
In the end, Morgan thanked Toure’ for his time on Piers Morgan Tonight but not before he uttered the words “We are different people. I like to think that I’m a professional journalist Toure’. You, I think, are something else.”
While that made for interesting television, what did viewers really gain from that exchange ? It could be said that very little of that nearly fifteen minute exchange was focused on anything new and useful related to Martin, Zimmerman and justice.
In related news, Piers Morgan’s interview with Robert Zimmerman, George Zimmerman’s brother, will re-air Saturday night on CNN.
