Recently a group of 30 students and family members from Pilsung ATA Martial Arts joined the staff of The Lord’s Pantry at Anna’s House to serve the needs of the less fortunate of Indianapolis. This trip was one of a series of trips the students and staff of Pilsung have made to support The Lord’s Pantry in their ongoing mission to serve families in need.
The Lord’s Pantry is a food pantry, a hot meal kitchen, a school, and so much more. In a part of town near the Indianapolis Zoo known to locals as “Stringtown”, the facility, at 303 N. Elder Avenue, serves the needs of local residents in their time of need.
From their website…
The Lord’s Pantry at Anna’s House strives to enhance the lives of those we serve by empowering families through educational programs, nutritional assistance and financial support. Through the generosity of many, we will continue to seek out and implement additional programs which will help families to become self-sufficient.
This statement doesn’t begin to do justice the work being done at Anna’s House. Providing everything from fresh fruits and vegetables for the week to clothes and educational assistance, the Lord’s Pantry / Anna’s House Volunteer Staff is working miracles every day.
The students and families of Pilsung ATA Martial Arts visit The Lord’s Pantry at least twice a year as a group, with many of them returning on their own throughout the rest of year to lend a hand. The group was able to help set up the service areas, prepackage food stuffs, distribute special packs for children, distribute food, carry bags for visitors, clean and organize, and set up the facility for weekly classes. The students and families that joined Pilsung Staff Members all demonstrated what it means to be “Servant Leaders”, showing their community leadership by serving the needs of others. These 30 dedicated and caring people were able to help The Lord’s Pantry serve the needs of approximately 240 local families.
The work is not done, not by a long shot. Please visit The Lord’s Pantry Website to find out how you can help. Currently the food pantry portion of the operations is always in desperate need of NON-PERISHABLE FOODS (jelly, peanut butter, canned fruits, vegetables, soups, pasta & meats, crackers, beans, cereal, etc.). The stock room from which food is drawn each Saturday is often emptied and in need of replenishment. Please contact Julie at The Lord’s Pantry if you can help fill their stock room and make a difference in the lives of those who depend on food from the Pantry.
The students and families of Pilsung are more than happy to lend a hand to the folks at The Lord’s Pantry. They are also asking those who read this article to reach out a helping hand to support the families of Stringtown (Indianapolis) who need a little extra assistance. They are hoping that when they return to help distribute food there will be more than enough to fill the needs of the day and keep the shelves stocked for the coming months.
