Miami sure knows how to throw a beach bash. Sand, palm trees, water, music and of course people was the setting for another year of Premios Juventud award show at BankUnited Center Thursday night.
Premios Juventud has recognized the best per fan votes in music, sports, movies, Spanish soap operas, pop culture and even award scholarships to two outstanding students for the past ten years. This year Univision went all out with the biggest beach party televised live for three hours where the audience was again part of the telecast. They were given certain props upon entry to the venue and instructed in between televised breaks when to use them.
The South Beach style – sand, palm trees, sailboards, boats, campfires, a lighthouse, fireworks, and an onstage swimming pool – was ready for a spectacular musical night. From pioneer performers of the caliber of Marc Anthony, Ricky Martin, Victor Manuelle to amateurs performing new songs and or breaking the ice with hopes to make it big in the music industry.
The explosive opening was in Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull’s hands performing a medley of their recorded duos together setting the venue to party as one of their songs is titled “Don’t Stop the Party”. It was continuous entertainment in between award presentations covering almost every Latin music genre there is – bachata, salsa, Regional Mexican, salsa, electronic dance, pop ballads, and rap – with performances by Chino y Nacho, DJ Chino featuring Fito Blanko and Papayo, El Dasa, J Alvarez, J Balvin, Larry Hernandez, Leslie Grace, Lucero, Marc Anthony, Marconi with Eiza González, N’Klabe, Thalía, and Victor Manuelle ft. Gocho. As for Abraham Mateo, Becky G, and Kevin Ortiz, they are the new kids on the block per say getting their feet wet with hopes for future stardom.
And of course there were debuts as well. Ricky Martin with his sexy moves sang his Spanglish version of “Come with Me”, Prince Royce “Darte Un Beso”, Jencarlos Canela “I Love It”, Maite Perroni trying the bachata genre with “Tú y Yo”, and Pee Wee in romantic mode with “Duele Decirte Adiós”. It was Yandel formerly of the duo Wisin y Yandel who ended this year’s Premios Juventud celebration singing his new solo single “Hablé de Ti” from a top of a giant lighted Y.
Overall the best performances, most applauded and best audience interaction was Jennifer Lopez with Pitbull, Marc Anthony with his band and Ricky Martin. Marc Anthony sang his latest new single hit “Vivir Mi Vida’ that has acquired an exceptional acceptance among fans, radio stations, and has been at the top of Billboard Music charts since its launch in April.
