Puccini’s Smiling Teeth Pizza, locations across Indianapolis’ North side, and suburban Fishers & Carmel, is one of the few bright spots on the Circle City’s pizza resume. Puccini’s specializes in thin crust pizzas but also makes calzones, sandwiches, pasta, and salads. They use fresh ingredients in interesting combinations to make some fantastic pies. From the crust up to the toppings (50 different toppings to choose from) everything that goes into the pizzas here is of the finest quality. Whether dining in, carrying out, or getting delivery, Puccini’s Pizza is always a good decision.
Puccini’s has 19 different Smiling Teeth Combo Pizzas to choose from. They range from classics like the Ultimate Warrior (sausage, pepperoni, onions, black olives, mushrooms & green peppers) to the more innovative Campfire (smoked sausage, sweet onion marmalade, gorgonzola & fresh rosemary). Some of their best combos are the Sweet Lil’ Razorback, the Twice Baked, and the Bill (Formerly Known As Steve). The Sweet Lil Razorback is a cured-meat lover’s dream. The pizza is pepperoni, smoked sausage, and bacon with a little fresh basil & garlic. The result is a hearty pizza with a smoky undertone. The basil & garlic help to keep the pizza from feeling too heavy, and the use of quality meats keep the pizza from being loaded down with grease. The Bill (Formerly Known As Steve) is another good choice. This pie comes topped with hot Italian sausage, yellow & red peppers, thyme, oregano and parsley. With the Bill, the hot sausage plays well against the sweet peppers, and the fresh herbs add depth and layers of flavor. Probably one of Puccini’s best and also most unorthodox pizzas is the Twice Baked. The Twice Baked is new potatoes, bacon, green onions, smoked gouda, and buttermilk herb dressing. Everything that makes this pizza seem so strange actually makes it so very good. The pizza is perfectly balanced and no one topping overpowers the other. The result is an amazing symphony of bar food that will make your teeth smile. If you are having a hard time choosing one or the other, large pizzas (running around $20) can be half and half at no extra cost.
You can always be guaranteed a fantastic pizza at Puccini’s. The crust comes out thin enough to have a crisp to it, but thick enough not to be crunchy. It is also flavorful, with a subtle almost smoky undertone. The sauce is solid and seems to harmonize well with all of the many toping combinations. Puccini’s uses quality cheese, but if you are looking for a cheese loaded deep dish pie try Union Jacks. What makes Puccini’s so good is that no one part of the pizza out shines the other, and every ingredient seems to elevate another.
The sandwiches and salads are good as well. Puccini’s takes the same approach of using fresh quality ingredients in their sandwiches as they do in their pizzas. The sub sandwiches are not the biggest in town but they are quite good. The homemade meatball sub is a real success. The Caesar salad is quite large for $5 and is perfect for splitting with another person.
Puccini’s Smiling Teeth Pizza is worth a try if you like pizza, and it is the place to go if you like kicking your pizza up a notch or two. The staff is friendly and the prices are very reasonable. The creative combinations at Puccini’s will rekindle any lost love for pizza you may be feeling if you have been in Indianapolis for too long surrounded by Papa John’s and Dominos.
