Birmingham moviegoers will get an opportunity to see AFFRM’s latest offering when the highly anticipated drama “Restless City” hits theaters in a limited theatrical release this weekend. The film premieres Friday April 27 in Atlanta, New York and Los Angeles before expanding to more locations the following week. On May 4, the drama will debut in Philadelphia, Seattle, Detroit, Chicago and Washington D.C.

“Restless City” is about an African immigrant living and surviving in New York. The 2011 Sundance film selection is directed by Andrew Dosunmu.

When it was acquired back in March by AFFRM, Founder Ava DuVernay praised Dosunmu’s work in a statement to press, “Both in its narrative and visual quality, “Restless City” takes my breath away. Andrew Dosunmu is a brilliant artist who has crafted a stunning, groundbreaking film.” The indie movie stars Sy Alaasane, Sky Nicole Grey, Danai Gurira, Tony Okungbowa and Babs Olusanmokun.
