April 20, 2012 – “Revenge” returned on April 18th with the highly-anticipated new episode, “Doubt.” In this gripping installment, Daniel (Josh Bowman) is sent to prison on Rikers Island for Tyler’s murder to await his trial. Meanwhile, Emily (Emily VanCamp) and Victoria (Madeleine Stowe) team up to try and find a way to set Daniel free. Victoria puts her focus on finding Amanda Clarke (Margarita Levieva), who she feels killed Tyler to frame Daniel in a vendetta against the Graysons.
Once again, Emily is walking on thin ice. Emily and Nolan (Gabriel Mann) agree that if Amanda is found and arrested for murder, she will most likely expose Emily’s whole plan to exonerate herself. Plus, Victoria plants the notion in Daniel’s head that Emily may be the killer. He gets angry and tells her if she brings Emily into it, he’ll confess to everything.
Ah, the seeds of doubt, though, have been sown. Tyler already warned Daniel Emily is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Victoria herself has suspicions and she’ll do anything to save her son. Has Emily already lost Daniel’s trust? Is Daniel playing Emily in an effort to discover the truth about her?
More importantly, will the two men Emily cares about suffer dire and unjust consequences as a result of the revenge plot she put in motion? Or, worse yet, is Emily on the brink of being exposed?
Daniel writes Emily a letter from prison and begs her to believe he is innocent. He also tells her he can get through anything if she stands by him. Emily goes to visit him in prison and assures him that she will always be there for him. She also gives him tips for coping with incarceration and staying safe. He tells her he’ll be okay.
Then Daniel gets attacked after a shower and suffers a concussion, among other injuries. The judge agrees to place Daniel on house arrest until the trial. This is exactly what Victoria wanted when she hired someone to beat him up.
Emily follows Victoria when she pays the guy for the job and takes pictures of the money changing hands. Later, she dons a disguise and finds the guy at the same bar. She flirts with him and they have some drinks, and Emily gets him to talk about the work he’s done for the Graysons. She records everything, then beats the guy up and leaves him unconscious (after she makes an imprint of his car key).
All this time, Daniel tries to reach Emily by cell and it’s evident he’s concerned that she’s not picking up. Then his mother tells him that Emily could be the killer and behind the whole thing.
Uh oh. Will Daniel start to believe her? Or, is Daniel already suspicious and playing Emily in an effort to expose any secrets she may be hiding?
And, what kind of plan has Emily got brewing now? What is she going to do with all of the information she gathered from the guy in the bar?
The man in the hoodie being Tyler’s killer theory is blown when Mason Treadwell reports Charlotte (Christa Allen) was high on pills and alcohol the night of the shooting. What happens now, then, to Daniel? Is he going to pay the ultimate price for a crime he didn’t commit? Or, can Emily save him somehow without exposing herself?
Along the way, Jack (Nick Wechsler) is determined to find Amanda and becomes a possible suspect, based on a sketch artist’s drawing of the man in the hoodie that Charlotte reported seeing that night. Emily enlists help from Nolan (Gabriel Mann) to try to get Jack out of town. They both know if Amanda is found and accused of murder, she could expose Emily’s whole plan to exonerate herself.
Emily, most of all, doesn’t want to see Jack get caught in the crossfire.
Declan (Connor Paolo) steps up to protect his brother, but has to sell Charlotte out by saying there was no man in a hoodie on the beach that night, that Charlotte was under the influence of pills and alcohol. While this seems to get Jack off the hook with the police, it paints an even bleaker picture for Daniel.
For the time being, Jack embarks on a wild goose chase to Canada to look for Amanda. But here’s a question about the missing girl: Has Takeda truly got Amanda secured somewhere? Or, will she escape and turn up angry for being held captive and make the worst kind of trouble for Emily?
Overall, Emily VanCamp continues to do an amazing job striking a delicate balance between the devious side of Emily and the girl we sympathize with as she once again tries to do damage control to protect people she cares about.
And, Madeleine Stowe continues to brilliantly paint the portrait of Victoria the vixen we all love to loathe. How will Dominik, a handsome stranger from Victoria’s past who appears on the landscape, fit into the overall scheme of things moving forward? Is this man someone Victoria truly cares about? Was their meeting entirely random, or part of a bigger plan?
Finally, are Jack and Daniel both headed for a fall as a result of Emily’s dangerous scheme of revenge? We have no choice but to wait for the next episode (with nail-biting tension) to see what happens next…
“Revenge” airs on Wednesdays at 10 PM EST on ABC.
