Just two years ago, Lena, a nine-year-old Quarter Horse surprised the world with twins. Rarely are twin foals ever born, and their chances for survival are estimated to be a one in 10,000 chance, however Sunny and Angel defied all odds.
The rare births took place in San Diego County in Rancho Santa Fe on March 28, 2010 where Helen Woodward Animal Center, under the care of Dr. Rodrigo Vazquez of Equine Surgical Services monitored the full-term twins around the clock. For the first six-months the world watched in amazement as the two healthy foals frolicked and jumped – at times exhausting their mother.
Saturday, March 31 from 3:00 to 5:00 the public is invited to help celebrate the birthdays of colt Sunny and his filly sister Angel. Their own Facebook fan club called “Foal Fanatics” has continued to delight and amuse the many fans who have watched with interest as these two tiny lives have grown into playful youngsters.
Attendees are welcome to share a birthday cake and refreshments and visit with the twins. The “Nay-Bors” welcome everyone to attend. The event is planned to be held at 6525 Helen Woodward Way, Rancho Santa Fe, CA 92067 at the Helen Woodward Animal Center’s Equine Hospital.
