Sometimes when you want something bad enough and can’t find it you just have to go out and make it yourself. I learned this lesson so well in college being on a shoestring budget. I loved clothes (and still do…almost as much as my makeup) so my father decided to invest in a sewing machine so I could make my own clothing instead of spending money. Best decision ever. Now it’s time to work the same concept with my lotions. Lotions run a really short course with me. The smells aggravate me after awhile, or they no longer moisturize like they should (you know the feeling…you rub and rub and rub and it feels like the lotion is sitting on top of your skin) or the texture just isn’t silky enough. S0 I found this cool semi homemade recipe online (Patchworktimes.com) that is not only simple and inexpensive but requires no cooking at all. This lotion is rich, velvety and luscious with the perfect consistency. And the smell….DIVINE! I’m pretty sure you can change the smell up a bit with the addition of essential oils (maybe lavender…!!) but who doesn’t love the smell of baby lotion?
16oz baby lotion (Johnson and Johnson is the best!)
8 oz Vitamin E cream (Try Queen Helene’s)
8 oz Vaseline (you may want to try the one with coco butter…yummy if you’re not going to try any essential oils)
Optional: essential oils (follow directions on label)
Throw this all together in a blender (if you like it then you may want to invest in a separate blender cup (?) for this since it’s not the easiest to clean…) and just mix it all up. Pour into containers with lids (you can get these anywhere from Wal-Mart to Sephora’s). This stuff is great for cracked hands and feet and makes a great night cream also.
Try it out and let me know what you think!
