It’s Follow Friday on Twitter, and there are many Las Vegas-based tweeters who are worth following. Every Friday, we’ll publish the user names of some of Sin City’s best Twitter users. This week rounds up the movers and shakers that define Las Vegas, the city, from the mayor to the Visitor’s Bureau to a few locals who help give the city it’s particular flavor.
@goodmanformayor – First Lady-turned-Mayor Carolyn Goodman’s official Twitter (and Facebook) feeds have seen very little action since shortly after her election last June, however it’s always possible the demands of office will one day ease enough for her to send out a tweet or two.
@lvchamber—There are literally hundreds of Twitter accounts aimed at the tourist market, but very few that cater to the local business person. The Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce keeps it real by tweeting information of use to area businesses and locals looking to network, mixed with some news items and retweets.
@Vegas—The official Twitter account for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors’ Authority sends many original tweets and relevant retweets per day, but not so many that followers feel spammed. This feed keeps visitors entertained with their Know The Code campaign, and offers up-to-the-minute news about big events in town.
@Norm_Clarke—THE feed to follow for those thirsting for local scandals, the eponymous Norm is the long-time gossip columnist for the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Rocking an eye patch as distinctive as his writing style, Norm has some of the best celebrity dish, as well as tidbits about local personalities, events and happenings.
@Robin_Leach—The former “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous” host now makes his home in Sin City, now with VegasDeluxe.com. If there’s an opening, a red carpet or a hot new attraction in town, Leach is sure to be there, tweeting photos and offering running commentary. With his high-level celebrity access and well-known reputation, it’s not the next best thing to being there…it’s better.
@LasVegasSign—Yes, the Betty Willis-designed icon has it’s own Twitter account. Photos of tourists taken by the sign is only one aspect of this feed—the authors also strive to keep visitors up-to-date on the most current of events and news affecting the city and it’s surroundings, including casino news, political rumblings and local interest items.
@SinCitizenX—If nightlife and dining are the order of the day, there is no better source for straight-up reviews served with a twist of sarcasm than Vegas Seven magazine’s Xania Woodman. No snobbery or velvet ropes for this cocktail-swilling cutie—Woodman distills her signature style into 140-character bon mots that make for just as much fun reading the morning after visiting one of her recommendations.
Next week: Las Vegas magazines.
