Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Inc was founded in February of 1943 at the Lewis Business College in Detroit, Michigan by Elizabeth Garner and her sister, Violet Lewis, owner and President of the College. Gamma Phi Delta Sorority is a sisterhood of distinguished, business and professional women. Through the sorority’s talents and qualities, members aid and cultivate higher scholastic and ethical standards by providing social and recreational outlets. In addition, the sorority implements enrichment programs for youth and administer services to people in need.
This event celebrates the 8th year of a successful commitment to award scholarships to youth in the community. Youth must be in pursuit of social, cultural and academic excellence. In order to receive a scholarship, the applicant must complete and submit the scholarship application along with an essay specified in the application. Applicant must be a high school graduate who will be entering college in the fall, and accepted for enrollment as a freshman in an institution of higher learning for the ensuring year, with a grade point average of at least 2.5 on a four-point scale ,with 3.0 or higher preferred. Two letters of recommendation and financial needs are also a factor with applying for this scholarship.
Gamma Phi Delta’s theme is linking minds to the future through women trailblazers in business. Delta Phi Chapter of Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Incorporated will host their Eighth Annual Scholarship Luncheon on April 28, 2012 at the Crown Plaza South Hotel, in Fort Worth Texas at Noon. With the encouragement and demonstration to our youth, both young women and young men, to follow their dreams and aspirations without limits. ‘Women Trailblazers in Business’ will be honored and two students will be awarded scholarships in September 2012.
One of the recipients of the Trailblazer Award, hair and scalp specialist Dr. Linda Amerson states that receiving the Trailblazer Award,” feels humbling and exciting to be recognized for hard work. I have been planting seeds for a long time in my field, and I am truly blessed to reap this type of award from Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Inc.”Dr. Amerson recently received the Pink Award from Perfected Magazine also stated, “these awards will impact my business because they allow fellow professionals to see that when you are serious about your business and implement good, quality customer service, your light shines in the community.” People do talk about you. In addition, consumers are impressed when they see my great accomplishments such as the “Pink Award” and “Women Trailblazer in Business Award”. “This keeps me motivated to keep my focus and continue to reach for the stars.”
