None of us know the infamous “celebrity” known simply as Snooki. Yet many speak of her as if she is a dear friend. She has a full name, but as is the case, her followers find saying her full name or even reading her full name to be tedious or difficult. In their defense, reading the full names of all celebrities being followed would take away time from selecting the most poular dress on the red carpet or determining the car the most prestigious athlete is driving.
In any case, she is pregnant. To those who are unaware of this, you are to be commended. You are to be celebrated because you have been too busy helping others to notice. Perhaps you have been spending time with family or loved ones. Maybe, you have found a way to humbly celebrate all that you are, without the need to waste energy following the exploits of someone whom you will never meet.
The truth is that none of us outside her family should be aware of her upcoming newborn, or even care. But many people do care; too many. Why is this troubling? Every celebrity we follow takes away focus of our own lives, our own dreams. Perhaps that is why there is celebrity. Perhaps on the whole many people are dissatisfied with their lives; perhaps many yearn to live differently. Yet no life will ever change if we dont spend time looking at what is truly important, our dreams and the well being of those we care about.
It has been said that leaders are successful, not followers. Each of us has a limited amount of time on the planet. Yet there are those who will leave the planet unfulfilled, with many dreams unrealized. As is the case, we have no one to answer to but ourselves. Every moment should add to our life; our life, not the life of a celebrity.
Do you think Snooki will care if her ardent followers die with unrealized dreams in their hearts? She will not. Because she doesn’t know you.
As stated before, none of us know her. We don’t know if she is kind or hateful. To be honest, she will be whatever sells the most products, whatever boosts the ratings. Those who follow her, whether she is kind or not, are missing out on their own lives. And for every minute we waste reading abour her or watching her on television, is another minute closer to leaving this world unfulfilled, simply taking up space on the planet.
And it’s not simply Snooki. It’s every celebrity that we follow. We are all important. Yet if we follow others instead of directing our own happiness then we are subtly, or no so subtly stating that our lives are unimportant. Every minute we spend following is another minute taken away from our joy, our dreams.
Embrace every moment. Make every moment an expression of who you are. Make every moment one that adds to your world and the world you live in.
With light and Love,
