This week Pikes Peak Poet Laureate Jim Ciletti will host an All City-All Voices poetry event, “Spring Speak”, at Imagination Place in the Citadel Mall on Saturday, April 28, 2010, to celebrate National Poetry Month. The event includes a free creative journaling mini-workshop, led by Ciletti, from 1:00 to 1:30 followed by open mic poetry readings, which all poets are invited to participate in. A free copy of the latest Poetry While You Wait booklet, containing a collection of poems, in several languages, by poets of the Pikes Peak Region, will be available to all participating poets.
The mini-workshop will be a hands on exercise, led by Ciletti, demonstrating the value of creative journaling. Participants should bring a journal to work in and explore ways that journaling can fuel the creative process and lead to poetry, stories and memoirs.
For the open mic readings, poets are invited to share their ethnicity, by sharing poems in English and in the language of their heritage in this multi-cultural multi-lingual poetry event, reflecting the diverse nationalities and ethnic communities found in the Pikes Peak region. Ciletti says that the “Spring Speak” poetry event is,
“an opportunity for everyone to share and celebrate their particular ethnicity and cultural roots…whether you speak an Asian Pacific language, Native American, have African American roots, German, Nordic, Hispanic, Russian, Middle Eastern, …this is your invitation to share poems in both your ethnic language and English.”
Reservations to perform are not necessary but Jim would like your RSVP to read at firstname.lastname@example.org or 719-634-2367.
