I had the pleasure of interviewing a local Tampa Bay author, Dr. Daisy Sutherland about her latest book, Dr. Mommy’s Life Lessons.
1) I would like the readers to get to know you better so please share more
about you—where you are from and what led you to come to the Tampa Bay
I’m originally from NJ but consider my self a Tampa girl now! I ventured to
the South for Chiropractic school in Georgia, where I met my soul mate -now husband. He is originally from the state of Florida so it was a natural
transition to continue south after completing our Chiropractic studies. We had employment opportunities in the Tampa Bay area and the rest is history.
We love it here and having 4 of our 5 children born here…we are here to stay.
2) Share some of your favorite places in the Tampa Bay area as a writer/author and even resident?
Tampa Bay has some lovely spots to hide away and write. One of my favorites is the Lowry Park Zoo. Believe it or not, the the animals and nature give
me the inspirations needed to write and simply escape the ‘real world’. But that’s not the only place I find inspiration..being a ‘beach-type’ of girl,
I love the beaches in our beautiful state. Taking the children to enjoy the sand and water allows be time to bond with them but also time to reflect on
the beauty that surrounds us that we all naturally take for granted.
3) What was the inspiration that led you to write Dr. Mommy’s Life Lessons?
My children are my inspiration. When I was younger I truly believed that my career would always come first but those thoughts quickly vanished when I
held my first beautiful baby in my arms. It’s amazing how our priorities change once we have children and that’s what happened to me. In Dr. Mommy’s
Life Lessons, I wanted to share some lessons that I have learned in my life but also share the many my children have taught me.
4) Can you offer an overview of the book, Dr. Mommy’s Life Lessons?
Dr. Mommy’s Life Lessons shares stories and lessons that I have learned from my children. As an adult and parent, each and every day is a learning
experience for not just us but for our children as well. Some of the stories shared may remind you of your childhood and some may actually make
you giggle. My children were shocked that I would share such stories but then realized it was a great way to share their experiences and how they
actually taught their ‘Mommy’ something.
5) Parents and guardians are always looking for support and tips to help us do a better for our kids. Can you share a few tips from the book, Dr. Mommy’s
Life Lessons you would like to share with our readers.
One of the best tips I can share with the many parents is to always keep the line of communication between your child and yourself open. Gone are
the days where the child should be seen and not heard. It’s never too early or too late to show interest in what your child says to you. Your child
will always need someone they can confide their deepest concerns with and as parents we must provide that safe haven for them. When they become teens
it may become a bit tougher thanks to those lovely hormones, but letting them know that they can always come to you is reassuring to both them and
6) What else is on the calendar for Dr. Mommy in 2012?
I am very blessed to share that 2012 is a great year for Dr. Mommy. The latest and greatest book called “Letting Go of Super Mom” is slated to be
released in August of 2012 with Charisma House Publishing. Along with my new book, I have several speaking engagements slated to share the notion
that as moms we don’t have to be a Super Moms. Many will argue with this concept but my presentation will soon make them realize the importance of
letting go of their cape and tights and truly enjoy living in the moment.
7) Share where the readers can learn more about Dr. Mommy and purchase your books.
