Team 17, the developers behind the popular Worms franchise, announced earlier today that a brand-new Worms game is in the works called Worms: Revolution. It uses a new game engine and although the gameplay still appears to be 2D (which is a good thing), the graphics and character sprites are in 3D. This blend gives the game a pretty cool look. Check out the newly released trailer on the left.
In addition to the return of old school fan favorites such as the Holy Hand Grenade and Super Sheep, there will be lots of new gameplay features, weapons, and challenges. Watching the trailer (and inspecting the game’s logo) it appears that there are now various different sizes of worms. Although this is only speculation, it would make perfect sense for fatter worms to move slower and not be able to jump as high but get knocked shorter distances and thus be less likely to be hit off the side of the map by an explosion.
Worms: Revolution is currently scheduled for a worldwide release in Q3 2012 and will be available for PC and consoles alike.
