For the past few years The District Attorneys (DA’s) have been honing their craft. Playing anywhere and everywhere while releasing two damn fine EP’s they have put together a pretty big collection of loyal listeners. Now taking the next step, the 5 dudes form Atlanta are about to release their first full length album upon the world.
On April 24th, Slowburner will be released on the This Is American Music label. It is a 12 song album full of spacey guitars, thumping rhythms and catchy lyrics. Sounds of those who influenced them (The Replacements, Beach Boys, Modest Mouse) are all over the record and their songs are new and original yet they give you the feeling you have heard them before. The title track “Slowburner” kicks things off by drawing you into the album with scorching guitar work and killer harmonies as it readies your ears for the pleasure that is to come. The DA’s exercise their ability to write catchy songs with “Boomtown” and “Madison Row”. Both are short, fast and loaded with jangly guitars. Dealing with the age old subject matter of girls they have nailed the 60’s pop tune vibe with “Confusion Of Trust”. To partake in what the DA’s do best then you need to set your volume to LOUD and listen to “California Fire”, “The End” and “Worry About Your Health”. These three tunes are loaded with fuzzy guitars, the right amount of twang and smooth vocals. They start nice and mellow and then slowly rise to a fury of sonic bliss before gently bringing you back down. These three tunes highlight all things that are good with the DA’s. The rest of the record is full of more great music. There is no filler here just a plethora of killer tunes for the listener to enjoy.
The District Attorneys are making things happen, but then writing good tunes kind of helps. Part of their success is due to their theory of never turning down a live show, or at least it seems that way because they are always playing somewhere. Live they are quite an experience, they play loud and are full of energy which is infectious to the crowd creating a rocking atmosphere. Saturday April 14th find out for yourself how good their live shows are. The DA’s will be holding their album release show at the EARL, jamming all the new tunes for you to enjoy. Get out and check them out so you can experience the new album in person. Doors open at 9pm, with Tedo Stone and Indianapolis Jones sharing the stage. The music will be rocking, the cold beer will be flowing, and a good time will be had by all. If you see me around say hi.
