The Pauly D Project premiere was watched by more than twice as many people as the Jersey Shore premiere, MTV confirmed today (Friday). Just under 3 million viewers tuned in to watch the series premiere of the first ever Jersey Shore spinoff in which DJ Pauly D leaves the Shore behind and heads out to Las Vegas with this hometown boys. The Pauly D Project was the #2 cable series of the day with viewers ages 12-34. It’s 10pm lead in, the Punk’d reboot, was #1.

It’s no surprise The Pauly D Project’s premiere was more of a ratings success than Jersey Shore’s (1.36 M) – afterall Pauly D already has a huge fanbase. MTV called it’s newest series premiere ‘a stellar start’ despite the ratings dip from Jersey Shore Season 5’s finale on March 15 (4.99 M). But that episode was #58 for Jersey Shore – we’re talking #1 for The Pauly D Project so it’s really no comparison. Considering it wasn’t until five weeks into Jersey Shore Season 1 that viewership hit the premiere levels of The Pauly D Project – it is a steller start for Pauly’s series.
SPOILER ALERT: The Pauly D Project Episode 2 spoilers for ‘Suite Life’
Admittedly, Thursday’s episode was a lot of set up for little payoff. ‘Hello Pressure, I’m Pauly D’ focued on Pauly’s audition for his DJ residency at The Palms. Problem is – most viewers already knew Pauly D landed The Palms gig – in fact he’s already onto his next Las Vegas residency at Hard Rock Hotel.
Viewers and critics alike, however, will likely find the second episode of The Pauly D Project ‘Suite Life’ more intense and entertaining – and a lot less predictable – than the premiere. It has more of the Jersey Shore-type drama (thanks to a belligerently drunk Ryan Labbe) that drew in huge ratings especially in Jersey Shore’s heyday. The other storylines, including Jerry’s 160 pound weight loss and Biggie and MaryJane’s relationship – also develop and should continue to draw in more viewers as the series premiere season continues over the next 11 weeks.
The Pauly D Project airs Thursdays at 10:30pm ET/PT on MTV.
