Last night’s episode of “The Vampire Diaries” was one of the best of the season and contained the reveal of a very big twist.
*SPOILERS FROM THE EPISODE ARE AHEAD*
The title of eighteenth episode of the season, “The Murder of One,” gave away a plot point, in that the audience knew someone would be murdered…but who would it be? There was plenty of speculation from the viewers, as well as a good amount of anticipation. When the episode finally aired we found out that the one who was chosen to die was Finn (Casper Zafer), shortly after being reunited with past love Sage (Cassidy Freeman). You may remember that if one Original died, all four of them would die as well, due to the bond that was placed upon them earlier in the season. However, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) forced Bonnie (Kat Graham) to cast a spell and break the bond that connected the four (Klaus, Rebekah, Finn, and Kol) together, so the other three are still ‘alive’ and well.
Sage (Cassidy Freeman), obviously, was not happy about the murder of her love and wanted to get her revenge on the Salvatore brothers. Yet, when she and her backup (a fellow vampire named Troy) arrive at the Salvatore’s shortly after Finn’s death, they start to bleed from their noses and keel over, dying. This is when the juicy twist is revealed: when an original vampire is killed, every vampire in their bloodline dies as well. Therefore, if all of the originals were killed, every vampire in existence would die (including Damon, Stefan, Caroline, and Katherine). If only one Original is killed, only their bloodline would die.
The question is, though, which bloodline do our four characters stem from? We know that Damon (Ian Somerhalder), Stefan (Paul Wesley), and Caroline (Candice Accola) were all sired by Katherine (Nina Dobrev) and Katherine was sired from Rose—but who turned Rose (Lauren Cohan)? Possibly it was Elijah (Daniel Gillies), since she seemed to have a direct relationship with him. Or, perhaps, it was Klaus? This one seems unlikely, since killing Klaus would also kill Tyler (Michael Trevino), due to the fact that Klaus inducted the teenager into his bloodline when he made him a hybrid. The writers probably wouldn’t want to off Tyler, though. Then again, there are a lot of deaths and twists on this show, so one can never be sure. Neither Rebekah (Claire Holt) nor Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic) seem like valid choices, as we’ve never seen any scenes between Rose and either of them, though maybe in future episodes we’ll be given more information.
What do you think? Did you like the twist? Is your money also on Elijah? Do you think they would kill Klaus and Tyler?! Comment below with your best guesses!
