The Winthrop Playmakers take a unique and dramatic turn as they proudly present “The Laramie Project,” the true story of Matthew Shepherd and the aftermath of his murder in 1998 in Laramie, Wyoming. The murder was denounced a homophobic hate crime. Written by Moises Kaufman, this message-driven production has been performed in playhouses around the world as well as high school and college campuses around the country. “The Laramie Project” is portrayed as a staged documentary featuring interviews, published news reports, and up to sixty characters in a set of short scenes. Laura Linney, Cindi Lauper, Stockard Channing, and Peter Fonda are among the long list of talent having appeared in this powerful production.
The Winthrop Playmakers’ production of “The Laramie Project” is directed by Nathan Fogg and will run for two weekends only! Performances will be held on Friday, April 27th, Saturday, April 28th, Friday, May 4th, and Saturday, May 5th at 8 p.m. Sunday matinee performances will be held on April 29th and May 6th at 3 p.m.
