Coreen Gottschalk, founder of Gulp! Food and Libations, LLC is on a mission. She wants to continually improve what she feeds her body. She asks the question, “What’s fueling us?” and the answer for her is in local, organic, fresh, seasonal and sustainable foods. According to Coreen, “It tastes better and we get nutrients closest to their peak when we eat locally and in season.” She went looking for and found a growing community in Palm Beach County promoting and supporting local produce, meat, dairy and more. Then her friend Maggie Griffin shared a video of a “farm to table” dinner in Minnesota featuring her dad’s farm. Coreen was so impressed and excited an idea sprouted to make it happen here at home.
Coreen put together a partnership with Sally Parsons, owner of Bx BeerDepot and Marie Bedner, Operations Manager of Bedner’s Farm Market to bring this passion to the community. They found an excellent sponsor in Gulfstream Business Bank and with their help will present a comprehensive gathering of some of Palm Beach County’s best in local products. On Sunday, April 22nd, which appropriately is Earth Day, these local business women will present “Dig In! Pitchfork to your Fork.” Underneath the tiki pavilion at Bedner’s, local purveyors of produce, cheese, meat, honey and goats, (yes there will be goats), will gather to present the best of the land. Short seminars will be held throughout the afternoon highlighting organic gardening, composting, home brewing, wine pairings and more.
The event begins at 1pm when guests will register and pickup their complimentary tasting glass. Tasting stations will be open from 1:30 to 4pm where Gulp! volunteer staff will present pairings featuring the products of the vendors and locally brewed beers, infused spirits, and wine. Bluegrass music by Celestial Range! will be keeping toes tapping and spirits light throughout the afternoon. Michelle Getty, LMT will help nurture the relaxed atmosphere with $1.00 a minute massages. It doesn’t stop there. While visiting Bedner’s make sure you take time to pick your own tomatoes, strawberries or sunflowers in their u-pick fields. Take a tractor ride and see how a working farm works to bring fresh produce to your table. Stop in at the Market and pick up any last minute items you might need to add to your wonderful fresh feasts at home.
To whet your appetite and encourage your blossoming curiosity, here are just some of the local vendors you will meet on Sunday: Goodness Gracious Acres / Delilah’s Dairy Goat Milk, Florida Fresh Meat Company, Porky and Beth’s BBQ at Bedner’s, Quiet Creek Goat Cheese, Bedner’s, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Winter Park Dairy and Cheese, Michelle Getty, LMT, Beau Myers Artwork,Terra Verde Farm Club, Pascale’s LLC-Gourmet Jams, Preserves and Hot Sauce, Raw Vegan Gourmet, Pickled Pink, Bx Beer Depot, Just One Backyard, TrendTea, R & R Honey Co.
