Panoply Arts Festival
The annual Panoply Arts Festival boasts stages offering Regional and National performers in dance, music and theater performance. In addition, there will be children’s make and take activities, an Art Marketplace, Artist demonstrations and a choreography competition.
If you fancy fiddling, visit Panoply on Saturday for the official Alabama State Fiddling Championship.
The festival is taking place in Big Spring Park in Downtown Huntsville 35801. The festival will be open on April 27, 2012 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m, on April 28, 2012 from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. and on April 29, 2012 from Noon until 8 p.m. Admission is charged.
Darkness into Life: Alabama Holocaust Survivors through Photography and Art
This exhibit is organized by the Birmingham Holocaust Education Center, the exhibition will include narratives about each survivor, as well as paintings by Mitzi Levin illustrating their memories of childhood, hiding, imprisonment and liberation. Becky Seitel’s photographs are also included in the exhibit and they capture the survivors in the present.
The exhibit runs from April 1, 2012 through April 30, 2012. The exhibit is located at the Huntsville Museum of Art located at 300 Church Street, Huntsville AL 35801. The museum is open on Tuesday through Saturdays from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., Thursdays 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. and Sundays from 1 until 4 p.m.
Spring Festival of Flowers
Tens of thousands of blooming tulips, daffodils, dogwoods, azaleas and a breath-taking wildflower trail welcome Spring in a spectacular show. You have never seen bugs like the cricket, snail, dragonfly and ladybug topiaries. Festival weekends will feature music and special activities for children.
This festival is open daily from April 1, 2012 through April 30, 2012. It is open on Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. and on Sundays from 1 until 6 p.m. The festival of flowers is located in the Huntsville Botanical Garden at 4747 Bob Wallace Avenue, Huntsville AL 35805. Admission is charged to get into the festival.
YAM 2012: Exhibition for Youth Art Month
An annual gathering of exuberant artwork from North Alabama K-12 students, organized by HMA’s education department in observance of Youth Art Month. Accompanied by the Annual Visual Arts Achievement Exhibition.
YAM 2012runs from April 1, 2012 through April 29, 2012. The exhibit is being held at the Huntsville Museum of Art located at 300 Church Street, Huntsville AL 35801. The museum is open on Sundays from 1 until 4 p.m., Tuesdays through Saturdays 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., Thursdays from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. and closed on Mondays. Admission is charged.
Ringling Bros and Barnum and Bailey Circus
This all new edition is guaranteed to have both kids and parents jumping out of their seats and into the circus action. A jumbo video screen now brings families even closer to the excitement. Come an hour early to meet our animals and performers at the “All Access Pre-Show” which is free with your ticket.
The circus is performing on April 26 through April 27, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. and on April 28 through April 29, 2012 at 11:30 a.m., 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The circus is performing at the Von Braun center located at 700 Monroe Street, Huntsville AL 35801. Admission is charged.
Bonsai Show and Demonstrations
This popular exhibit will be bigger and better this year in its beautiful setting in The Arbor. Members of the Bonsai Society to demonstrate styling techniques and to answer questions.
This exhibit is taking place at the Huntsville Botanical Garden located at 4747 Bob Wallace Ave, Huntsville AL 35805. The exhibit will be open on April 28, 2012 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. and on April 29, 2012 from Noon until 5 p.m.
A witch takes baby Rapunzel from her overprotective parents and locks her in a beautiful tower that has no doors. Whenever the witch wants to visit, she calls Rapunzel to let down her golden hair so that she can climb up. Observe what happens when a handsome prince tries to rescue her in spite of a hilarious dragon who is supposed to guard her.
The play is performing at the Playhouse at the Von Braun Center. The playhouse is located at 700 Monroe Street, Huntsville AL 35801. The play runs from April 20, 2012 through April 22, 2012. There is a Friday night performance at 7 p.m., a performance at 1:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is charged.
Play: St. George and the Dragon
In this wonderful musical, the dragon is attacking the kingdom and everyone from the fishwife to the mayor is in an uproar. With a touch of humor and a lovely blend of voices, St. George is a wonderful musical that the entire family will love.
The play is performing at the Holmes Street United Methodist Church on April 27, 2012 at 7 p.m. and on April 28, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. and at 7:30 p.m. The Holmes Street United Methodist Church is located at Founders Hall, 501 Holmes Street, Huntsville AL 35802. Admission is charged.
An Evening of Irish Music
Hear the “Ian Sturruck Memorial Pipe Band,” “Bourbon” and “Shamrocks” play sea shanties, traditional Irish pride, drinking songs, old time bluegrass, folk and more.
This evening of music is taking place on April 28, 2012 at 8 p.m. The concert is at the Flying Monkey Arts Center located at 2211 Seminole Drive, Huntsville AL 35801. Admission is charged.
Concerts at the Dock
Concerts on the Dock at Lowe Mill Arts and Entertainment are always family friendly shows. Picnics, coolers and pets on a leash are welcome. The concert is on April 27, 2012 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Lowe Mill Arts and Entertainment is located at 2211 Seminole Drive, Huntsville AL 35805. No admission is charged.
Concerts at Improv: Howard Hewett (R&B Int’l Recording Artist)
Howard Hewett is performing at Alonzo’s Style Salon on April 28, 2012. The doors open at 6 p.m with the show starting at 9 p.m. Alonzo’s Style Salon is located at 200 Oakwood Ave, Ste J, Huntsville AL 35811. Admission is charged.
Concert: Jimmy Henderson
