After an exciting night of performance and awards this past Sunday, Wisconsin musicians are back giving audiences what they crave: solid talent, entertainment and music. Here is the 411 on the Greater Green Bay and Fox Cities area for the weekend of April 20-22, 2012.
Vivid vs Rob Anthony
Head down to Luna Lounge in Appleton Saturday night for Vivid vs. Rob Anthony. This rock remix will give you an electronic dance vibe with awesome guitar riffs. A innovative music partnership, DJ Vivid’s talent at the tables and Anthony’s gutsy guitar work will woo crowds with one hot show. Not only is this party not to be missed, but it is something not seen in the Fox Cities area. The art of DJing and performing requires the ability to relate to and read the crowd, something which both of these artists do well. Head out for some music history in the making on Saturday.
Jazz, Funk, and Big Band
The Tiger’s Den in Wrightstown brings Shaker and the Egg. Fresh from their performance Sunday night at the WAMIs, Shaker and the Egg will give the audience a high energy, original and funky version of swing. This group of talented musicians play both originals and covers that get everyone on the dance floor. Be there by 9:30p.m.
Rock and Blues
Star Six Nine will perform Friday night at Mill Creek on downtown Appleton and hit up Big Apple Pub in Manitowoc Saturday. This rock band plays tunes from Journey to Queen. Star Six Nine holds fast to the rule that shows aren’t just for observation but for fan participation. Both shows start at 9:30p.m.
Half Empty at Stone Toad in Menasha Saturday. A rock-n-roll cover band from the Fox Valley, Half Empty just walked away with a WAMI Award this year for People’s Choice Band of the Year. The night gets going at 9:30p.m.
Ready for some high energy talent? Greg Waters and The Broad Street Boogie will be at Sluggers in Menasha Saturday. A mix of musicians with various backgrounds, Greg Waters and The Broad Street Boogie combines jazz, funk and rock with guitar, horns, keyboards and drums. One of the great things about Greg Waters and the Broad Street Boogie is their ability to improvise on a whim. Meet them out at 9:30p.m.
Fine Line hits the stage at Kountry Bar in Appleton Friday. This talented hard rock and heavy metal cover band is lead by Andy Stefanek’s killer vocals. Go there to rock, go there to dance, or both, Fine Line delivers every time. Show starts at 9:30p.m.
Headliners in Neenah welcomes The Presidents Saturday night at 9:30p.m. A rock band that plays everything from classic to contemporary, The Presidents has become one of the best in the area.
Cranky Pat’s in Neenah is hosting a weekend full of multiple bands. Friday night The Midwest Charm, Redhawks, and Andy of the Haunted Heads perform while on Saturday night Miles Nielsen & The Rusted Hearts with special guests King of Demons and DJ Dusty Fingers hit the stage. Both performances have a $5.00 cover charge, but it is a full weekend of rock.
Rocker has been in the music business for 37 years and plays a variety of music ranging from ’60s through ’80s. Mostly a rock cover band, Rocker also plays some country hits for audiences. Join them at Swobey’s in Green Bay Friday starting at 10:00p.m.
Get your naughty on with Naughty Monkey this weekend. They will perform at Slider’s in Menasha Saturday beginning at 9:00p.m. Naughty Monkey plays rock from the likes of Queen, Poison, and Kings of Leon.
Cold Hard Cash is at Molly McGees in Green Bay Saturday. This diverse band plays everything from R & B, funk and classic rock to blues and rock-a-billy. Get there by 9:00p.m.
Red Light Saints at Chasers in Howard Saturday. Formed in 2010, Red Light Saints provides a rockin show and has just released some originals on their first EP. This group of musicians has also played at Summerfest and opened for national acts. See them perform at 9:00p.m.
Kyle Megna and The Monsoons at Cold Shots in Appleton Saturday. Follwoing up their first release in 2006, the sophomore cd titled Under the Sun will be celebrated at this CD Release party. Get there by 9:00p.m. to join in on all the action.
Buddhas Still in De Pere welcomes Spin Saturday beginning at 9:30p.m. Lead by vocals from Deb Johnson, Spin will have listeners out on the dance floor shaking it to hits from the 70s through current top 40 rock.
Dizzy Reed of Guns-n-Roses fame will be at Green Bay Distillery Friday. Tickets are $15 in advance. Dizzy comes to Green Bay during the same week GNR will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The soon to be inducted musician is joined by The Black Mollies, Spiral Trance, and Higher Ground. Doors open at 6:00p.m. and performances begin at 7:00p.m.
The Best of the Bay winner, Toast and Jam Karaoke is at Bay City Smokehouse both Friday and Saturday night this weekend. Beginning at 9:00p.m. people can leave the comfort of their couches, put down that plastic guitar and grab the mic for a while (it does have to be shared though). Toast and Jam is by far the best professional karaoke gig in the Greater Green Bay area. Hit up Bay City for some food and drinks prior to the show with friends and you can have a fun-filled night of Facebook photos and memories.
The Fifth Annual Bluegrass Festival to benefit breast cancer at The Watering Hole in Green Bay Saturday. Hosted by the Ladies of Bluegrass, this benefit will have bluegrass music all day beginning at 1:00p.m. Six bands and the opportunity to win some prizes. Give a donation of $20.00 at the door and enjoy a day of great music.
Come for a magical night of Beethoven with theTrans-Siberian Orchestra. Performing at 8pm Friday, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra will bring audiences the truth and the spectacular behind Beethovens last night on Earth. Tickets for this event happening at the Resch Center in Green Bay can be purchased through Ticket Star.
Eddie Biebel is one of the best guitar players in the area. For five years he played lead guitar for Austin based Wayne “The Train” Hancock and has played alongside many well-known artists. Biebel released his solo cd in 2009 titled Rollin On. He plays at Cimarron in Menasha Friday evening and Pearly Gates in Appleton on Sunday afternoon beginning at 2:00p.m.
Hip-hop and Rap
Durty 30 is at Hortonville Lanes in Hortonville Friday at 9:00p.m. Durty 30 is one of the only live hip-hop bands in the area and they play everything from Beyonce and Rihanna to 2Pac and Pitbull. Head down to dance to some live, local hip-hop.
These are just a few of the many talented Wisconsin musicians performing this weekend. Head out for a great meal and then hit up some of the venues hosting them.
