April is coming to a close, the trees are blooming, and hopefully May will bring some much desired warmer temps. In stride with spring, the weekend music entertainment is hopping and this is your 411 to music in the Greater Green Bay and Fox Cities area.
Battle of the Bands
Billy Goats Pub in Green Bay is sponsoring a Battle of the Bands this Saturday night. Complete rock/heavy metal line-up details can be found on their event page via Facebook. Cover charge is $10, however, each of the performers will compete for a spot in the Ride for a Dime Wisconsin. The event begins at 9:00p.m.
The Presidents rock the stage at Sliders in Menasha Saturday starting at 9:00p.m. A rock band that plays everything from classic to contemporary, The Presidents has become one of the best in the area.
9:30p.m. Friday night brings Rooftop Jumpers to Millcreek in Appleton. Five talented muscians came together to form one of the best local rock bands in the area. As indicated on their Facebook page, they’re ready to melt your face off.
Head out for some Muddy Udders Friday. They pack the house at Adams Street Pub in Green Bay. Originals, covers and the audacity to give a phenomenally fun time for audiences, Muddy Udders plays 50s/60s, grease rock, punk rock and so much more. Find them starting at 7:00p.m.
Naughty Monkey helps you achieve a very high level of naughtiness this Saturday at Fox Harbor Pub and Grill in Green Bay. Naughty Monkey plays rock from the likes of Queen, Poison, and Kings of Leon. Get your naughty on with Naughty Monkey this weekend beginning at 9:00p.m.
Good Grief and Orange Iguanas at Cranky Pats in Neenah Saturday. $5 cover. Good Grief comes from Steven’s Point and is joined by the sounds of the Orange Iguanas. Head out for some punk and garage rock with these two bands at 10:00p.m.
Road Trip at River Rock Pub and Grill in Kaukauna Friday night. Show starts at 10:00p.m. and will not disappoint. Road Trip brings talent and all the favorites you like such as Gretchen Wilson, Aretha Franklin, and Ozzy.
Rocker comes to the The Hideout in Green Bay Friday. Rocker has been in the music business for 37 years and plays a variety of music ranging from ’60s through ’80s. Mostly a rock cover band, Rocker also plays some country hits for audiences. Show starts at 10:00p.m.
JJ Maloney’s in Kaukauna welcomes Half Empty to the stage Saturday at 9:30p.m. These guys have the talent and the drive to show what rock music is all about and have people talking about it days afterward. Join Half Empty and party late into the night.
Northeastern Wisconsin Charity Motorcycle Classic
The 30th annual Motorcycle Classic gives two days worth of motorcycle madness at the Manitowoc County Expo Grounds including a Saturday night dance party with two of Wisconsin’s best bands, Johnny Wad and Road Trip. Entrance to the dance party is $5 in advance and $7 at the door. Proceeds go to benefit Hope House and Holiday House. Johnny Wad plays a variety of covers from 70s through today and Road Trip plays favorites from The Black Crowes, Jason Aldean, Def Leppard, and much more. Annex will be at Rockstars in Green Bay Friday night with their softer side. Anyone that has enjoyed an electric version of this 2012 WAMI award winner, needs to see them live and unplugged. Show begins at 9:30p.m.
An intimate evening with Rob Anthony starts at 9:00p.m. This genuine talent hails from Appleton and will make the stage at Deja Vu Martini Lounge Friday night. Get some drinks with friends and enjoy some quality acoustic tunes until midnight with this humble, Midwestern musician.
Funk/R & B
Sly Joe and the Smooth Operators at Cranky Pat’s in Neenah Friday. $5 cover charge, but the cover is well worth the talent represented in this group of musicians. Be ready for a night of great entertainment starting at 10:00p.m.
Supasonic gives some great Motown beats and R & B sounds at the Sardine Can in Green Bay Friday night beginning at 9:00p.m. Playing everything from LMFAO to Bob Marley and Stevie Wonder, Supasonic gives a performance that includes costume changes and choreography.
Shaker and the Egg will perform at Jimmy Seas in Green Bay Friday night and at the 10th Frame in Appleton Saturday night. Shaker and the Egg will give the audience a high energy, original and funky version of swing. This group of talented musicians play both originals and covers that get everyone on the dance floor. Both shows begin at 9:00p.m.
Unity will bring their American Reggae to fans at The Stone Toad in Menasha Saturday night at 9:30p.m. If you’re looking for some reggae beats, this is the band to see. Winners of WAMI awards two years running, Unity has just released their cd titled Oceania, which features 13 originals including “Kiss Me”. As their website describes, the cd isn’t traditional reggae, but it does have Caribbean beats.
Durty 30 will be at Chaser’s in Howard this Saturday at 9:00p.m. Durty 30 is one of the only live hip-hop bands in the area and they play everything from Beyonce and Rihanna to 2Pac and Pitbull. Head down to dance to some live, local hip-hop.
Started in 1997, Nashville Pipeline plays Keith Urban, Tim McGraw, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band; just to name a few. A 2012 WAMI award nominee, Nashville Pipeline also does an unplugged version of themselves called 14 Hour Ride. Enjoy the full-throttle version Friday at Luna Lounge in Appleton. Show starts at 9:30p.m.
Grand Union hits the stage this weekend in Greenville. This talented group of musicians won a WAMI in 2010 for Country Band of the Year and perform a variety ranging from Miranda Lambert to Luke Bryan, Linda Ronstadt to Hootie and the Blowfish, and many more. Find Grand Union playing at the Stoneyard in Greenville this Saturday night. Show begins at 9:30p.m.
The Best of the Bay winner, Toast and Jam Karaoke is at Bay City Smokehouse both Friday and Saturday night this weekend. Beginning at 9:00p.m. people can leave the comfort of their couches, put down that plastic guitar and grab the mic for a while (it does have to be shared though). Toast and Jam is by far the best professional karaoke gig in the Greater Green Bay area. Hit up Bay City for some food and drinks prior to the show with friends and you can have a fun-filled night of Facebook photos and memories.
These are but few of the many talented Wisconsin musicians performing in our local area this weekend. Set aside some time to enjoy a show or two.
