More than 200 reporters showed up to hear from the newest member of the New York Jets football team on Monday, former starting Quarterback with the Denver Broncos, Tim Tebow. Tebow was making his first on camera comments about being traded to the team after John Elway and company decided to hire former Indianapolis Colts Quarterback, Peyton Manning.
It’s been a whirlwind for the 3rd professional football player out of Florida. Two weeks ago he was the ‘Mile High Messiah’ in Denver, Colorado and today he’s taking a bite out of the Big Apple in New York (Florham Park, NJ.)
Here’s what Tebow posted on his Facebook page after nearly three weeks of no real activity or interaction with his followers:
Well, that was an interesting couple of weeks! Now that things have finally settled down a bit, I wanted to take a moment to thank all of you great Denver fans for all of your support. The ride that we were able to enjoy together this past season is something that I will always cherish. I’d also like to thank all of my former coaches and teammates as it was an honor to play for and alongside each of you. I will always be grateful to the Broncos organization for giving me the initial opportunity to fulfill my dream of being an NFL quarterback. GB²
As the ‘current’ backup Quarterback to Mark Sanchez, Tebow wasn’t even formerly introduced by a team representative. Obviously everyone knows who he the 24 year old is but still you would think someone would make it official?! Instead the 6 foot 3 inch, 236 pound football player simply walked up to the podium in his nice new suit and Jets green tie and offered up an opening statement. When he was done, he fielded questions from the media for more than 30 minutes.
Tebow was friendly, honest and charming through the entire process; in a word ‘excited’. No wonder the media and fans love Tim Tebow. Here’s what Tim posted today about his most popular comment during the press conference:
I’ve already said it 44 times so here goes number 45: I’m really excited to be a Jet! Haha! All joking aside, it’s truly an honor to be a Jet and I’m anxiously looking forward to going to work with all of my new teammates and coaches. Fireman Ed and the rest of Jets nation, I’m gonna play my heart out for you.
J-E-T-S JETS! JETS! JETS
That statement alone has been shared by Facebook users nearly one thousand times! And get this, more than 32,600 people felt the need to ‘like’ his remarks while more than 4,800 took the time to leave a comment. Here are a few:
Rick Gamache You da man, Tim! I’m a die hard Pats fan, but you sir, transcend sports. A class act.
Debra Cox Will be cheering for you, hey I have been a Jets fan since Broadway Joe. At least you are back on the East coast. Just got my tickets for your tournament on the 14th, looking forward to seeing you back in Florida.
Tracy Files A new mission field. I have never been a Jets fan but I will watch.
Richie Cunningham And I’m EXCITED for you Tim! May God bless you in your career and being used in blessing others through the faith you so graciously and humbly reflect. God’s love truly shines through you
Austin Neeley Manning and yourself are my two favorite QB’s because of the way you carry yourselves on and off of the field. Best of luck in New York. I have never liked the NY Jets but as long as you wear their colors i will root for them!
