Today is National Pay it Forward Day and everyone is encouraged to treat others with extra respect and human compassion.
The goal of the Pay it Forward Day is to have just one day where everyone can try to be genuinely nice to each other and to spread kindness.
Giving selflessly with genuine concern for others can be an uplifting and joyous experience on any given day, the idea is to make a difference and to experience the true power of giving.
Don’t be surprised if you are approached by a total stranger today offering you a random act of kindness. Many companies, groups and organizations go to extra lengths on this day to ensure that random acts of kindness are plentiful.
According to the pay it forward day website, in 2011, participants paid it forward in 35 countries with 7 state & 15 city proclamations.
It doesn’t take a lot of money to pay it forward, you can offer to help someone with lawn work or wash a car for an elderly neighbor. You can pay for someone’s coffee, gas or lunch. There are many ways that you can express kindness to others and today is a perfect day to make it happen.
Catherine Ryan Hyde (Author of Pay it Forward) and founder of the Pay It Forward Foundation posted the following message on the pay it forward day website:
Pay it Forward Day is a brilliant initiative. It embodies the power of giving which is the cornerstone of my book. It is amazing the difference a simple idea can have in changing the world – one good deed at a time. I hope everyone can join with Blake on April 26, 2012 and Pay it Forward.
