Many students around this time of the year are focused on passing some very important academic exams, and moving forward in their lives. However, students are being warned that staying up and studing for those, “All Nighter” exams may be hazardous to one’s dental well being.
Firstly, studing for many exams requires energy, and therefore many students rely upon food and sugary snacks. These apparantly provide calories which allow themselves to remain awake at night to study for these very important exams.
The student then goes back to studying after nourishing themselves and yet many students are too focused on their subject matter and time devoted to this endeavor, to remember to simply even rinse after eating; not to mention to actually brush those choppers. This is very important for plaque grows on teeth as soon as the surface has food or debris left on it post meals and snacks.
Also students might consider eating at least semi healthy snacks with nutritional value in them, and not just sugar, carbs, fat, and caffeine. Celery sticks and peanut butter is perfect, or even celery with a bit of cream cheese on it. A glass of milk to drink, in lieu of say 3 glasses of cola or coffee laiden with sugar in it.
One should use a fluoride toothpaste following each meal or snack, this is just a rudimentary necessity which must be established in early study-eating habits, to ensure future dental health.
Lots of luck on ALL the very important exams, but don’t forget to care for your teeth after eating, while studying.
