David Toledo, of the 4000 block of Aldine Street was arrested for allegedly slashing the tires of his neighbors vehicles on multiple occassions yesterday. Toledo also claimed to be the victim of vandalism, having the tires on his red Beretta flattened as well. This has been going on for months, along the 4100 and 4000 blocks of Aldine Street in the Mayfair section of the city.
Residents were at thier wits end. Some of them even threatened violence towards who ever was caught. Toledo, was one of the most outspoken, going on television and local media wishing to” smash the hands of whoever was responsible”. He also promised to turn the reward down save for the money to reimburse himself.
Toledo, fancied himself as a member of the block watch. However, he was never a member of any official townwatch. In fact, the Mayfair Civic Association issued a statement to clarify the errors that some of the media have been reporting. Toledo could have been a member, however he chose not to, even as the tire slashings increased, he chose not to get involved. In fact, some police sources said that Toledo’s attempt to take charge and form the block watch could have been his downfall.
Donny Smith, an active organizer of events like the May-Fair and different charity events throughout the community posted on his Facebook page that Toledo was “More than welcome to be the Block Captain at Curran Fromhold Correctional Facility”. At this time, bail has been set for him at $270,000.00.
At the Toledo house on Aldine Street, all was quiet. Police have two officers detailed to insure their is no retaliation to the Toledo house. Toledo was married . His wife was unavailable for comment, however his mother denied any knowledge of the incident. When asked as she was walking the families two dogs, he said “I have not heard anything at all, I have nothing to tell you”.
Police have strongly advised people to let the courts take care of this matter and to leave Toledo, his house and family alone. A community meeting is set for tonight to deal with this matter.
Police would not say exactly how they zeroed in on Toledo. However, Toledo does have an arrest record. He will be facing charges of vandalism , filing false police reports. Police would not say if Toledo’s vehicle tires were flattened by letting the air out to appear he was the victim of vandalism, or if his tires were actually slashed.
