As the weekend approaches, we begin to plan how to spend those precious forty-eight hours to maximum pleasure. If you happen to be in the Lodi area, there are two fun-filled wine events you should plan to attend: the Consumer Wine Awards Showcase of Champions and the Spring of the Vine.
The 2012 Consumer Wine Awards Lodi wine competition was held back on March seventeenth at Hutchins Street Square. In this particular wine competition, a group of consumer evaluators collectively sipped and spit hundreds of wines from all over the globe. The results are in and this Friday is your chance to see how they rated.
The competition itself and the upcoming Showcase of Champions are sponsored by the Lodi-Tokay Rotary, who use the funds raised from these events for both local and international service projects. The Showcase of Champions takes place at Hutchins Street Square on Friday the 27th from six to nine p.m. Tickets are $35.00 in advance, and $40.00 at the door. For ticket, call Jeremy Lenser at (209)-339-8147 or Jim Natsis at (408)-857-7332, or visit http://www.shop.napaseasoning.com/product.sc?productId=21&categoryId=1. As well as sampling many of the award-winning wines, several area restaurants will be showcasing some tasty bites.
Take a break on Saturday, perhaps visiting some of the Lodi wineries you discover on Friday night, and get ready for the first annual Spring of the Vine event at Wine and Roses on Sunday. From two to five p.m., the beautiful garden setting at the Wine and Roses Hotel, Restaurant, and Spa will play host to this event, featuring wines from the Lodi Appellation.
The focus of Le Printemps des vins, as the French would say, is the lighter new releases – 2011 whites and roses. Many of the Lodi area wines being poured will be presented by the winemakers themselves, affording the consumer a chance to converse first hand with the masters of the grapes, such as Ryan Sherman of Fields Family Wines.
Acoustic duo Ike and Martin will also be performing their own special magic at this event. Plus, attendees will have access to a gourmet salad station, enjoying custom-made creations, for an additional fee. Tickets are $25.00 per person, and can be purchased by calling the front desk at (209)-371-6117, or by going online at email@example.com. If there are tickets still available on the day of the event, ticket prices rise to $35.00.
Don’t let this fun-filled weekend of discovery slip by! Get thee to Lodi, and sip away!
