Program Descriptions for Children and Young Adult 2012 Summer Sessions:
Cheer and Sports Camp
We will fit so much physical fitness into this three day experience! Both boys and girls can opt for activities
in the sports and cheer arenas. This emphasis will be on getting out there and having fun, but playful competition is always an option. We’ll play football, baseball and basketball complete with mini tournaments. For our cheerleaders, we’ll learn actual game cheers for all of the sports mentioned. We showcase our skills in a production that includes one short song routine and a longer group performance.
Around Our World and Our State
July 20-26th and July 20-22nd
Let’s discover what our world and the great state of California is all about! We will concentrate on the Asian and Hispanic cultures, as they are the biggest part of the Bay Area. Our culinary exploration will be vast as we produce fresh tortillas and tamales, whip up various stir fry dishes, and chop ingredients for a flavorful Chinese chicken salad. After a visit to a local mission, we will construct individual replicas that our participants can take home with pride. Our evening activities will include a trip to a local Greek restaurant, as well as a piñata party back on campus. An abbreviated 3 day Around Our World and Our State session is available
It’s CSI Week
July 30-August 3rd
Become your own Scene Investigator at Via West Campus! We will spend a week solving various capers
and learning the techniques that the professionals use. This session will also involve safety for all including
the No-Go-Tell program for abuse prevention and field trips to a local police station and fire station. Our
cooking components will involve preparation of higher protein foods, as we will need the stamina to solve
the case from start to finish.
We will be discovering all of our inner talents—arts, building, acting, singing and much, much more. Fine
arts will abound. On campus, we’ll be creating tie dyed shirts, making spray paint murals, and writing journals. We will paint ceramic figures and sketch a wilderness scene after we hike to a scenic spot. Other activitiesinclude baking and decorating individual cakes to take home ans share, as well as working in groups tomake a gigantic volcano
Let’s Explore the Seven Seas
August 10-16th and August 10-12th
This session will explore all aspects of ocean life – come join the ocean fun! On campus, we will dive for
sea creatures in our own “waters”, create a 3D mobile of ocean life and fashion a paper mache sea creature.
We’ll also go fishing in a local pond. Our evening activities will include a tribute to Poseidon and an “Under
the Sea” Little Mermaid dance. All participants will take home their own “fish friend” in an aquarium that
they decorate themselves. An abbreviated 3 day Let’s Explore the Seven Seas
