After nearly a year delay to heal from an ankle injury suffered in last year’s X-Games, action sports star Travis Pastrana is ready to make his NASCAR Nationwide Series debut Friday night at Richmond International Raceway. To kick off the event, Pastrana and friend Andy Bell made a video with five time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson that debuted on the internet Thursday.
The video makes fun of NASCAR as Johnson shows Pastrana and Bell seven tips to making it big in NASCAR. The video kicks off with Pastrana and Bell taking a plunge in an icy lake and features Johnson giving the duo mullet hair cuts.
The video ends with Johnson calling Pastrana ‘Mullet Man’. Pastrana is guaranteed a starting a starting spot this Friday night after Michael Waltrip Racing signed an alliance with RAB Racing to field cars for Pastrana for his races in addition to other Nationwide races on the schedule.
Earlier this week, Johnson said he enjoyed making the video and is also looking forward to Pastrana’s progression.
“I gave him a pretty cool haircut,” Johnson joked. “He has a rocking mullet that I was able to carve out of his head with some metal cutting sheers…So he is all committed, fully in.”
“On a more serious note, it’s his time,” Johnson added. “The guy knows how to race and ride and drive and whatever the heck it is. It’s just car time… I’m really happy to have him in the sport. He’s an amazing guy with a huge fan base, and it’s going to be good for NASCAR.”
