Yesterday, a post appeared on NeoGaf reporting the PSOne game, “Buzz Lightyear of Star Command,” popped up on the PlayStation Store for the PS Vita. Before you get your hopes up too high, the game does not work at this time. While the game appeared on the Vita home screen as a playable game, clicking the icon resulted in an error code saying “The file is corrupt.”
While some were quick to pass off the incident as a PS Store glitch, four days ago, Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony Worldwide Studios, Tweeted: “Our engineers are working hard on it. Pls be patient.” The response was directly to a question asking when we would see PS One games available for the Vita.
We’ve known that PSOne classics were in the Vita’s roadmap, but the addition of “Buzz Lightyear” may indicate titles will be coming sooner rather than later. Personally, I’m holding out for the original “Metal Gear,” “Resident Evil,” Oddworld Abe’s Oddysee,” and “Parasite Eve.” Though something tells me “Final Fantasy VII” will be in that list, too.
