Running along side the namesake Little Econlockhatchee River, the Little Econ Greenway is a paved mixed-use trail that winds it’s way through Orlando’s east side. The main trail-head starts at a parking lot off of Dean Rd. and is approximately 1 mile West of the Blanchard Park YMCA.
The stretch of trail between the Dean Rd. trail-head and the YMCA features two separate play areas for kids (or adults who like monkey bars) as well as soccer fields that frequently host games and recreational play. The trail itself winds around the YMCA facility and offers views of the river and, for intrepid explorers, a short wilderness trail that winds alongside he waterway.
If heading in the opposite direction, you will find the bulk of the Little Econ Greenway along with several distinct ecological areas and opportunities for outdoor recreation. Starting with a full basketball court, the greenway stretches for several looping miles, with sightings of wading birds, wild rabbits, and gators common. Anglers will also be pleased to know that the waterway hosts a sizeable bass population that is fair-game for catch and release fishing.
For the most part, the trail lacks tree-cover, so fair-skinned individuals may want to apply an extra coat of sunscreen. Fortunately, there are regular water-fountains along the way, so staying hydrated is relatively easy.
