Imagine your nephew Elmer’s B-day is April 8th and you are to host his party. You are very fond of Elmer so here’s your dilemma… You have tickets for the Padres game. The solution:
Fuddruckers in Grossmont Center!
They have a nice huge indoor ‘patio’ with two giant wall hung TVs and management assures me they will be watching the game. Problem solved.
I think this is an old location, I mean the shopping center opened in like 1960 and Ricky Nelson was the star of that opening and maybe Fuddruckers was there but… This store is still viable.
I find it vibrant with its braggadocios claim to make the best burgers in the world. If you’ve got a need to put on the feed bag for a gaggle of young kids but you just can’t see Chuck E Cheese then Fuddruckers is a good choice because they do beer and sports TVs on the sports channel.
Nancy and I did Fuddruckers in La Mesa, on a recent trip and I must say I was reasonably pleased by the outcome. It was nice, clean, and cheery inside and out. The staff was pleasant and helpful.
It’s got a Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlor flavor to it but if you’d never seen one of those then your immediate response should be the same as mine was the first time I saw a Farrell’s, ‘This is kind of a Disney Main St. atmosphere, and I like it.’
Fuddruckers uses only fresh, never frozen, 100% USDA All-American premium-cut beef. The burgers come in 1/3, 1/2, 2/3, or 1 lb. patties! They are made to order, and that’s a good deal. The sesame-topped buns are baked from scratch on site so they’re fresh. Talk about fresh, they host a full produce bar to build your sandwich anyway you want it. The day we were there, the produce was gorgeous.
They offer beer and wine but we did soda with unlimited refills. We saw the burgers but the reason we went there was that Nancy had a real hankering for a good hot dog.
The Dogzilla for Nancy was covered with chili and cheese to which she added onions. I went with a cheese dog and it was really good. I tasted Nancy’s chili dog and it was even better.
I’ll go back for a burger next time because it was good. Go Padres!
