Where to find the time for self-care? Everybody has 24 hours in a day. But everybody doesn’t have the same responsibilities and time commitments. What are your priorities?
When the flight attendant says to put on your oxygen mask first, before you help others, there is a very good reason for that. If you run out of oxygen yourself, you will pass out and won’t be able to help others. The same can be said in life in general. If you take care of yourself, you will have the ability to perform everything else you “have to do” in life.
So, how do you fit self-care in to your life? Begin with writing a list of your responsibilities and then categorize them. The A’s are the most vital things to get done. The B’s are important but secondary and the C’s can wait. Be sure that the list of A’s includes your self-care routine. Let the C’s go completely. People will understand and if they don’t, it doesn’t matter. You matter.
