These days the word green is associated with things that are natural and environmentally friendly. Thanks to some Sacramento-area craftsmen, the word also means something that will make both cats and their people happy for a very long time.
Due to a generous donation from the artists, you have the chance to win a one-of-a-kind cat tree crafted from natural Manzanita wood and fragrant cedar.
Michael Bonin and Gary Lawson of Best Cats Trees Ever donated the 52-inch, four-level tree to be used as a fundraiser for the City of Sacramento Animal Shelter on Front Street.
Plain, carpeted cat trees can be useful, but you’ll never make the pages of “House Beautiful” with one in your living room. And that is before they get dirty and torn to bits, decorating the floors with tumbleweeds of shredded carpet fibers and cat-spit.
“Best Cats Trees Ever” offers the perfect alternative; beautiful works of art that enhance your home and entrance your cat.
The idea of making artisan cat trees was “Gary’s brainchild” according to Bonin, a carpenter by trade. Lawson, a gourmet food salesman, thought of it because his cats had begun scratching up the furniture and carpet in the house they had recently moved into.
“Gary is always thinking up great ideas”, said Bonin, who decided that using only wood was “a way to express ourselves while doing something unique.”
Each cat tree is created to compliment the natural curves and color of the Manzanita branches; no two trees are the same. The levels are made of fresh cedar; fir and sisal rope are used to provide stability and additional claw-friendly surfaces.

The natural materials mean that these sturdy trees will last a very long time and that they can be used outdoors as well as in. Besides never having to vacuum up carpet shreds, how easy are the trees to clean? “It’s simple” says Lawson, “you can even take it outside and hose it off”.
Customers from across the country have purchased their trees, but the cost of shipping is sometimes more than the cost of the tree. For that reason the artists prefer to sell locally; customers can pick the tree up or BCTE can deliver it for a nominal fee.
