On March 1st, 2012 WWE superstar Wade Barrett announced to the world of Twitter: “I am done with Twitter for now. See you in a few months.”
When this post was made the internet blew up with opinions as to why he would go off of Twitter. Some said it was because he was injured and just had surgery but nothing was ever confirmed. His loyal followers on Twitter have been filling his mailbox with messages stating how much they miss him and he should return to Twitter.
Then on April 23rd, the 252, 835 people that follow his Twitter were shocked to see a message from Barrett’s Attorney, Peter Lazarou, Esq. The Twitter message stated:
Due to a number of factors, Mr. Barrett has signed the administration of this account over to his attorney for the foreseeable future. Mr. Barrett will be making no further comment at this stage. Regards, Peter Lazarou, Esq.
Mr. Peter Lazarou has been keeping the fans up to date about the thoughts of his client. The following days, Mr. Lazarou has tweeted some interesting messages as follows.
In order to end any speculation relating to his motives behind the engagement of an attorney for the purpose of social media management, my client, Mr. Barrett, has instructed me to inform the general public that his reasoning is, essentially, two-fold. To wit: (i) time constraints, and (ii) a diminished tolerance of the hoi polloi. Regards, Peter Lazarou, Esq.
These tweets have caused a commotion over the internet that only fans know how to create. Everybody has their speculations as to who this Mr. Lazarou is. Some people say it is Barrett fooling us all, a storyline that WWE Creative has him doing, a sign for his return, or that it could possibly be his real attorney. One more interesting conclusion that many have come to is that perhaps Barrett has chosen the name of a character on League of Gentleman, Papa Lazarou. One thing that all WWE fans and Pro Wrestling writers know is that Wade Barrett has a brilliant mind. He knows how to get people to react to anything that he says or does.
My opinion of this situation is that Barrett is Peter Lazarou and may be expressing some disagreement with some recent negativity spread over the internet about him. Maybe he saw that it would be better to become someone else and not be attacked verbally as Mr. Barrett. This way he could express his “diminished tolerance” behind the name of another. Nobody knows for certain who this man is and maybe we will never know.
