WWE superstar Rey Mysterio was suspended today for 60 days for violating the company’s Wellness Policy. Mysterio is currently rehabbing a serious knee injury which has put him on the shelf since last year, and was expected to return to Smackdown in late May or early June. This is Mysterio’s second violation in WWE’s three-strikes-and-your-out program which bans the use of performing-enhancement drugs, the excessive use of painkillers, and other behavior by WWE talent. The timeing of the suspension could not have come at a worst time as Mysterio was about enter on what could be his last run in the company as it’s biggest Latino star.
It is currently unknown what exactly Mysterio did to violate the Wellness Policy, and if he failed one of many random drug tests that WWE wrestlers must take every year. WWE confirmed the news in an official announcement today on their website which included Mysterio’s real name Oscar Gutierrez.
Mysterio will be available for WWE in late June after his suspension ends. It will be interesting how such a popular star like Mysterio is used by WWE when he returns to the main roster on TV after a long hiatus due to an injury and a suspension.
