When it comes to selecting something that you may do for 8 to 10 hours a day, it certainly makes things worthwhile if it is something you at least enjoy doing. What is it that gives you that sparkle in your eyes and makes you smile from ear to ear just thinking about it? Your passion gives you purpose and allows you to see exactly what it is you were put on this earth to contribute to the world. So many of us lose sight of this and tend to obtain a job solely to make a living which many times makes our spirits feel drained and depleted. What a beautiful thing it would be if we were able to fulfill our dreams, find our passion and use this to create all of the wealth we need to take care of ourselves, take care of others and to contribute to our society. You have found your passion when you wake up in the morning with excitement and say “Wow, I love what I contribute to this world every day and I can’t believe I actually get paid for this”.
A great way to find your passion is to spend quiet time thinking about what really excites you and makes your spirit feel refreshed after doing it. Writing down (preferably in a journal) the top 10 things you want to accomplish before you leave this earth is a start. It allows you to uncover wonderful aspirations that you have put off because you figured you could accomplish it later. Leo Babauta discusses the importance of remembering some of the activities that evoked excitement in you as a child in his article entitled “How to find your passion”.
Nekesa Smith (the CEO of Nekesa’s Natural Radiance Hair Loft and Nekesa’s Natural Radiance Hair/Body Products in Historic College Park, Ga.) is a great example of someone who followed her passion. Smith advises anyone who is contemplating finding their dream career to “do your research on the field first, connect with someone who is doing something similar to what you want to do, then visualize yourself doing it”. Smith also emphasizes the importance of “walking in your dream daily” as well as “surrounding yourself around positive and supportive individuals”.
The best time to fulfill your passion is now. Whether it is creating a new invention, opening up your own business or starting a career that has never been developed before; the world deserves your best and most creative “self”.
